DiscipleShape Week 6
The Prayer Hexagon
Please be sure to view the Prayer Hexagon worksheet (attached to the week 6 devotion at RevealChurchPD.com/blog).
As we begin our devotion, please take a moment and pause to seek God. Ask Him to open your heart and mind to hear his voice. Ask Him to remove the distractions in your life. Put on some worship music if you need to or take a few minutes to simply be silent.
The Prayer Hexagon is simply a tool we can use to use the Lord's Prayer to direct our prayers. Prayer is a must for the believer. For the Christian, prayer is as important as breathing is for you and I. Through prayer, we breath in God's Word and breathe out God's Will.
This morning, one of the high school students likened prayer to bluetooth head phones. He said that his headphones are great as long as he stays within a certain proximity to the source, but when he begins to stray too far away, the quality of the sound decreases or even completely becomes unavailable. Think of prayer as one of the ways that we are reminded to stay within proximity (close relationship) to the Father. When we stray, it becomes harder to hear, much like when we try to breath or stop breathing, we struggle to survive. Prayer is our life-source. Prayer is our connection.
The Prayer Hexagon can be used in several different ways and as long as it helps to direct your prayers, there probably isn't a wrong way to use it.
In recent weeks, I have used it to make columns for each point and then I began to right different things I felt called to pray for in regards to each category. The longer I spent with the tool, the more I began to find myself making different versions of the columns. After awhile, I had a page for my personal life, another page for my wife, another page for my kids and another page for the church. This would be a great thing for you to practice this week, but for today, I want to challenge you to dig into Scripture.
Spend a few minutes searching the Word and finding different passages that remind you of each point.
What are some passages that remind you of the Father's character?
What are some passages that help you understand the Father's kingdom?
What are some passages that help you understand how the Father wants to provide for you?
What are some passages that help you receive and offer to others the Father's forgiveness?
What are some passages that help you understand the way the Father provides guidance?
What are some passages that help you understand the way the Father protects his children?
Now spend some time in prayer. Use the tool if you need to. Use the passages you just found if you need to, but most importantly bring yourself into proximity of the Father so you can breathe in his Word and breathe out his Will.
We would love for you to join the conversation by checking in on the Reveal Facebook page and joining the DiscipleShape Group.
